A hard-to-find, collector-grade 20th-century Burmese medium lacquerware betel box with traditional Nandwin Burmese motif hand-painted on the surface. One hand-painted tray nested inside.
The betel box is in excellent condition, with effectively no usage wear for its age. The only cracks are age-related on the lid. It shows pride of ownership from the previous owner. This piece is part of legendary interior designer Lucia Lawrence’s private collection and it has been stored in a climate-controlled environment continuously, wrapped in shipping paper. It is clear to us that this betel box was created with a decorative purpose in mind, which is rare for the period and the region.
